K-12 Workshops & Residencies

All workshops are interactive and fun, providing hands-on learning opportunities. Students explore the power of speaking and listening with dynamic activities and creative dramatics.

Workshops and residencies:

WORKSHOPS

Becoming a Storyteller (Grade 4 – 12)
Students will enjoy an interactive discussion with hands-on activities demonstrating how to tell a story—a great complement to storytelling assemblies.

The Writing Connection (Grade K-5)
Use storytelling tools to develop and promote writing skills. Students will develop stronger connections between oral communication and writing.

Tell and Play (Grade Pre-K – 5) 
A story is presented, and then followed by creative drama activities that will excite and involve the entire class as they deepen and expand their experience of the story.

Telling Our Stories (Grade 4-12)
Use storytelling as a tool for community building in your classroom by:

• Giving voice to students’ diversity
• Encouraging tolerance and respect
• Teaching communication skills that emphasize listening.

I liked the time with Noa because I got to do things that I never did before, like dance in the middle of the circle. It was challenging to talk and do things in a big group.

RESIDENCIES

Residencies support the common core curriculum. Noa provides activities, ideas and tools that teachers can integrate to enhance classroom learning.
Residency programs include:

• A teacher planning meeting
  
• An initial storytelling assembly
• 4-8 classroom sessions
• A celebratory final event (optional)

Leap Into Story
Students learn by working individually, in pairs, and in groups as Noa guides them to: Tell a story without memorization; Learn story structure; Develop plot: Listen to others; Communicate clearly and effectively.

The Art of Storytelling
Creative drama forms the basis of this interdisciplinary story residency that emphasizes effective communication skills, thinking creatively, teamwork and cooperation. Students explore a story through various activities including:

• Movement and rhythm
• Vocal expression
• Making masks or puppets
• Writing and drawing

Noa’s residency was a huge success! It was obvious that the students walked away with many new skills… this residency allowed the students to express themselves and use their imagination in so many ways! They actively looked forward to their sessions together and could not wait to see Ms. Noa! Thank you for all your hard work!
